Retallack School of Arms ranking is loosely based on the tiered system employed by
the London Company of Masters.
Recruit (new student)
Scholar (acknowledged student)
Free Scholar (advanced student)
Provost (instructor, often the most senior student)
Instructor of Arms (the head instructor)
All new students are considered to possess the rank of "Recruit". Recruits are taught
the basic principles of the Retallack School of Arms method, and introduced to the
fight manuals of historical masters. As the students advances in his/her knowledge of
the materials regarding dagger, catch wrestling and longsword they are eligible to test
for "Scholar" rank.
All rankings are earned in a specific weapon and discipline, and a candidate must
achieve a rank with the dagger before testing for any other weapon. Testing for a rank
promotion involves an extensive oral examination and the physical demonstration of
technique.
